Rosa has always occupied the most honorable place in the garden and its popularity in landscape design is absolutely undeniable. For many decades of active work, breeders have bred a huge number of varieties of garden roses and continue their noble work today, creating more and more outstanding and unique masterpieces. It would seem that you can come up with a fundamentally new in the selection of the universally recognized Queen of Flowers? The answer to this question was found by the Dutch breeders from the company Interplant (‘Interplant Roses’), who created and offered the so-called “Ruffle Roses’ ”to the flower market. The breeders gave such an original name to new varieties of roses for the unusual appearance of plants. A distinctive feature of the roses of this series is the combination of the characteristic corrugation of the flower petals (hence the name of the series) with the relatively small size of the plants (up to 40-70 cm high) and their ability to repeatedly and very long flowering.

All varieties of roses of the Raffles series differ significantly in the degree of corrugation of their flowers. In some varieties, such as Ruffles Dream (‘Ruffles Dream’), the flowers look very openwork or even lace, with very rugged edges, in other varieties, such as Ruffles Passion (‘Ruffles Passion’), the flowers are only slightly wavy. Some varieties, such as Mystic Ruffles (‘Mystique Ruffles’), the flowers have a characteristic two-tone color. New varieties of roses "Raffles" have already earned well-deserved attention of collectors and amateur gardeners in many countries of the world. The compactness of these plants allows them to be used for planting in borders and flowerbeds both in single and in group plantings, while creating unusually beautiful compositions. Ruffles roses are also well suited for container growing on terraces and balconies. It is important when planting these roses to provide the plants with good lighting and ventilation. The best time for planting garden roses in central Russia is spring.

Ruffles rose cultivation agricultural machinery is generally consistent with Floribunda's agrotechnology for growing garden roses.

  • Since the multiplicity and abundance of flowering directly depends on the presence of the necessary nutrients in the soil, and Raffles roses differ precisely in that they have a repairing type of flowering, it should be emphasized that the soil of the area where such roses are planned to be planted should be sufficiently fertile.
  • When planting in the landing pit, it is necessary to make organic fertilizers. Usually a bucket of compost or well-rotted manure is used, as well as ash at the rate of 300-400 g per sq.m. An excess of organic fertilizers should be avoided, since the nitrogen contained in them is a strong stimulator of shoot growth and does not contribute to the abundant flowering of plants. Do not apply organic fertilizers in the fall, so as not to impede the normal preparation of plants for the period of winter dormancy. In the autumn, the introduction of kalimagnesia is recommended, which will stop growth and will contribute to good aging of wood.
  • In the fall, it is necessary to prune the plants, preparing them for winter. Watering should be reduced at this time. The first 2-3 years after planting, it is recommended that the shelter of roses for the winter, since young plants are quite weak and can easily be damaged by winter frosts. Traditionally, lapnik, ruberoid or lutrasil is used to shelter garden roses.
  • During the summer, roses need timely top dressing, moistening and loosening the soil.

It should be noted that all Ruffles roses, subject to easy shelter for the winter, grow beautifully in the Moscow Region. These roses are resistant to fungal diseases, which is very important for very variable summer weather conditions in the central regions of Russia. Some varieties of Ruffles roses, such as Spacklin Ruffles (‘Sparkling Ruffles’), during the flowering season they require support under the branches bending under the weight of flowers. Other varieties such as Ruffles Dream (‘Ruffles Dream’) and Mystic Ruffles (‘Mistique Ruffles’), support is not required at all. Most of the new Raffles rose varieties form large inflorescences, which makes it possible to create accents for certain colors in flower beds, but there are varieties such as Indian Ruffles (‘Indian Ruffles’) or Candy Ruffles (‘Candy Ruffles’), which bloom mostly single flowers, and such varieties will look very original in solitary plantings on decorative lawns or lawns.
