If there is no overgrowth: propagation of sea buckthorn by cuttings

Sea buckthorn, as a rule, is propagated by shoots, on which this plant usually does not skimp. But it happens that it is formed very little (most often in good, not prickly varieties), and then the question arises of an alternative method of propagation, for example, lignified cuttings, like blackcurrant. True, they are rooted a little worse at sea buckthorn, but if you take strong shoots, annuals, not less than half a centimeter in diameter and not lateral thin branches or tops, on the cuttings, the percentage of rooting can be quite decent. In time, you need to prepare the cuttings before the swelling of the kidneys. Cut growths are stored in a snow pile, and cut into pieces (on cuttings) of a length of fifteen - twenty centimeters already before landing.

It is better to plant “in the mud” in early spring, when the ground has already thawed, but has not yet managed to dry out. For better rooting, the cuttings are kept for four to five days in the snow melt water (10-20 ° C) before planting, immersed for 2/3 of the length. Water should be changed daily. Unlike currants, sea buckthorn cuttings are planted preferably vertically, it is possible only with a slight slope - otherwise the stems of future plants will be curved.

Good results are obtained by landing in the slot of a dark film spread on the garden bed. But it is necessary to ensure that the film is firmly pressed down to the ground, not lifted by growing cuttings or by the wind. It is important for cuttings, it is very important in the first month that they were planted so that the air and soil are moist, and the outside temperature does not exceed thirty degrees. Well-developed plants can be planted in a permanent place next spring.
